AKB48 Tickets

As of early 2008, tickets to attend an AKB48 performance at the Don Quixote building in Akihabara are no longer available from the theatre itself; instead, they must be won through an email lottery system put in place by the management. Thanks the hard work Tatami Mats from Stage48, a guide has been created for those who do not live in Japan or speak the language to enter and hopefully win a ticket in the lottery.

Sending an email

The basic idea to win a ticket is to email a certain address with your details, and you will be informed if you win and you will be able to collect the ticket from the theatre. There are several addresses you can send to, depending on your situation. You are allowed to apply ONCE for each address. Sending emails from multiple addresses to try to increase the chances of seeing a show will get all email addresses banned. For example sending an email from a1@hotmail.com, a2@hotmail.com, a3@hotmail.com, etc, will result in them all being banned. Before the lottery is performed, the staff check the email list over to make sure there isn't anything suspicious. Similarly, if your name is the same more than one email, they will remove ALL those emails. Trying to increase your chances of doing that will only make them remove your name from the lottery before they even do it.

Note that if you wish to attend a weekend show, you can send TWO emails per entry address, one for EACH show. You will have to specify which show in the subject line.

For example, to apply for a show on April 6th-

Weekday: 4月06日 Weekend: Afternoon subject line: 4月06日1回目 Evening subject line: 4月06日2回目

The common convention for the email address the emails is based on the date of the show you wish to attend, in monthday format; for example,

January 1st = 0101

July 25th = 0725

November 30th = 1130

Please note that where (date) is used in the following email addresses, do not include the (), as it is just used to demonstrate the example.

Important note on ticket choice

While there are several tickets you can apply for, it is important to note that you CANNOT send an ippan email, girl email, renban email, family/couple all to the same show. The maximum number of emails you can send for 1 show (if you are coming from outside Japan) is THREE:

1. Enpou (and if you don't win...then send #2)
2. FC (if you are an FC member; and if you don't win FC...then send #3)
3. Ippan OR family/couple (if this applies to you) OR girls/students only (if this applies to you) OR renban (if this applies to you)

For #3, you can ONLY send ONE choice. You can't send for all 4 even if they all apply to you; you have to select Ippan, Family/Couple, Girls/students, OR Renban.

How to claim your ticket

First, you must find out if you won. If you did NOT win a ticket, you will NOT receive a reply back. Rhere are two potential replies you will receive- a winning ticket notification, or a cancel machi ticket notification. These are detailed below.

Winning ticket

If you have won a ticket, you will receive an email from AKB48 staff that will appear like this. Please note the time given, as it is when you'll need to visit the theatre to pick up your ticket.

On the day of the show that you won a ticket for, you will need to arrive between a certain time and the opening time of the show to pick up your ticket.

  • Weekday -- Between 12:00 - 6:30pm for the 7pm show
  • Weekend (Afternoon show) -- Between 11am - 12:30pm for the 1pm show
  • Weekend (Evening show) -- Between 4pm-5:30pm for the 6pm show

When you arrive at the theatre (see the Don Quixote article on how to get there), go to the information counter as you arrive and say "me-ru atari mashita. watashi no namae wa (name) desu." (translation: "I won an email reservation. My name is (name)."). It might be a good idea to print off a copy of the email you received to show the staff, just to be sure.

Cancel machi ticket

If you have won a cancel machi ticket, you will receive an email from AKB48 staff that will appear like this.

A cancel machi ticket is the second-chance draw, in case people who have won tickets have not claimed their tickets in time. You can choose to go to the theatre and hope you will be able to get in anyway; the email will list your ticket number. If you are an FC member the number is from 1-50, if you are a regular non-FC member, the number is 51-150. Before the show starts, any tickets that have not been claimed will be given to cancel machi ticket holders, starting lowest number first. The odds of winning a real ticket this way depend on how busy the day is, how many people drop out, etc.

Cancelling a winning ticket

If you have won a ticket but cannot attend, you can only cancel it in person or on the phone. If you're (very) fluent in Japanese, the number is on the winning email; in person, the easiest way would be to present the email in printed form and say "cancel" and look apologetic. If you don't cancel, it will be given to a cancel machi ticket holder. However, if you win tickets and do not claim or cancel them several times, your email address will be blocked.
